Expressing the spontaneous movement of the spirit in a given moment in time, this painting began with the creation of an enso in copper paint (a circular mark painted with a single brushstroke). Deeply rooted in the practice of Zen, the symbology of each enso is as unique as the moment it was created...its meaning as infinite as the heart that regards it. As we turn our awareness from the chattering in our minds to being present in the moment, the sheer awesomeness of the universe reveals itself in the exquisite beauty of a simple twig. What gifts of presence have captured your centre lately?

Waking up one day in a grumpy mood, I sat down at the easel with no idea what to paint. This cheeky little heart appeared, lightening my mood with a good giggle
and a swift kick to the butt. A lighthearted yet potent reminder to appreciate all that I do have rather than complaining about what I do not.

A playful mix of abstract realism, this bold beauty struts her stuff against the simple, clean lines of a geometric background.

Nothing makes me smile more when drinking a glass of wine, than thinking of my lovely Swiss neighbour. His home and heart are always open and nothing gives him greater joy than feeding the body and spirit of those he encounters. As the homemade wine flows, where the conversation will go is as varied and delicious as the gastronomic delights he has cooking on the stove.

Beyond being one of the most beautiful creatures on this planet, dragonflies are also one of the oldest...having come into existence even before dinosaurs. In many cultures they are seen as symbols of transformation, wisdom, strength and courage. Wise old souls in impish bodies charming our deepest dreams into awareness and inviting us to manifest our own unique beauty.

One of things I love about painting is the delightful surprises that arise out of nowhere. Lately, as I've made a more focused effort to live in gratitude, fanciful hearts have started appearing on my easel. Not sure what it all means, but I'm enjoying their whimsical nature and the warm smiles they bring.

The rainy season is soon upon us and while odd days of glorious sunshine intervene, dreary skies and unrelenting rain are often the norm. Even the most upbeat of people struggle to stay positive. How uplifting to look out my window and see these joyful wee wonders...stubbornly refusing to give up and gracing me with a splash of colour on the bleakest of days.

One autumn day as the first rains fell, this multi-hued splendour tried to get my attention. I, still desperately clinging to summer, was having none of it!!! "No no no...go away", my mind shouted, "I am not ready for you." Patiently, it waited for me to finish my rant and then gave me a cosmic wink as I finally dissolved into the extraordinary grace of the moment.

When I began this series of paintings, I enthusiastically set out to portray my connection to this extraordinary planet we live on. I had a really clear idea of what I wanted to convey and what the paintings would look like. Despite my preconceived notions (and best intentions) the paintings just weren't coming together. After countless hours of trying to force my vision, I finally gave up in exasperation. It was only as I let go that the lovely archetype, Gaia (Mother Earth), appeared and showed me what she wanted to express...a poignant reminder of the value of surrender.
